AP CollegeBoard Exams

Start your application for a bachelor's

Admission Requirements

The specified admission requirements apply to students holding a national diploma from either the United States or Turkey. If you hold a national diploma from another country in combination with a minimum of 4 AP CollegeBoard exams (each with score 3, 4, or 5), your application will be assessed individually on a case-by-case basis by both the University of Twente and the national expertise centre. There is no guaranteed admission, and in case of possible acceptance, additional test(s) might be required.

If you have taken or plan to take AP CollegeBoard exams, you may be eligible for admission to a bachelor's programme at the University of Twente. A minimum of 4 AP CollegeBoard exams, each with a score of 3, 4, or 5, is required to be considered possibly admissible. Some specific AP subjects are mandatory to fulfil subject-specific requirements (see the overview per bachelor's programme). Additional AP exams may be needed to meet the minimum of 4 AP CollegeBoard exams. Please also check which AP CollegeBoard subjects are accepted by the University of Twente, as not all AP subjects are recognised for admission purposes.

These admission requirements are valid for the September 2026 intake.

The admission requirements can change per intake moment. The requirements are announced in October for the following September intake moment. The University of Twente therefore cannot provide any information regarding admission requirements for future intake moments that are not yet open for applications. Please check the current admission requirements for advice, until the new admission requirements for the specific intake have been announced.

Note: the admission office reserves the right to make the final decision regarding the admissibility of your application. The admission requirements mentioned are for your information only.

Accepted AP CollegeBoard subjects

The University of Twente only accepts AP subjects that are concluded with a written exam. The selection of AP subjects is elective, provided that both the general admission requirements and subject-specific requirements are met.

Documents required for application

Already graduated?

Please upload your AP CollegeBoard ‘Score Report’, which can be downloaded from your own CollegeBoard account. Additionally, complete the form below and include it with your application, as the University of Twente requires information on which AP CollegeBoard exams you plan to take in the upcoming year. If you do not intend to (re-)take any exams, please provide this information in the 'remarks' section of the form. If the form or an explanatory document is not uploaded, the University of Twente will assume you do not intend to (re-)take any AP CollegeBoard exams in the forthcoming year.

You can upload your AP CollegeBoard results and any information about upcoming AP CollegeBoard exams in your application under the section for your secondary school diploma or transcript of records. Please do not upload them under “Other Educational Documents,” as this section is not intended for AP CollegeBoard materials.

Not the required grade, subject or level?

If you do not have the required grade, subject, or subject level, you might be eligible to do an additional test(s) if your overall level is equivalent to the Dutch VWO-Level. The University of Twente only accepts certificates from CCVX, James Boswell-Bèta (both online and physical tests from James Boswell-Bèta are accepted, contact them about the online possibilities), or the Dutch 'Staatsexamen'. The OMPT and Korteweg-de Vries tests are not accepted by the University of Twente.

The test must be passed with a positive result and should be taken before the application deadline (check the deviating deadlines for the bachelor's programme in Technical Medicine). Please submit your application to the University of Twente before you make a reservation for one of the tests (to prevent possibly unnecessary costs). The University of Twente assesses on individual bases whether you are eligible for such a test and inform you via email after a submitted application. You can continue your application the first time by answering with ‘No, I still have to complete a *subject* test’ if you are unsure if you meet the additional admission requirements. You will get additional questions about uploading a reservation, which you can skip as they are not mandatory. After submitting your application, you will be informed via email.

The Netherlands has different Mathematics subjects. For the social sciences bachelor's programmes, VWO Mathematics A is required. For the technical bachelor's programmes, VWO Mathematics B is required. For the subjects Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology you have to take the VWO Level, there are no sublevels like Mathematics.

An additional test (such as CCVX, James Boswell-Bèta, IELTS, TOEFL, etc.) does not substitute an AP exam. You need at least 4 APs; the additional exam is only if you have at least 4 APs and not the required subjects. For example, you have AP Computer Science, AP History, AP English, and AP Macroeconomics with the required scores. You meet the admission requirements to have 4 APs with the correct scores. However, there is no AP Calculus, therefore you might be eligible to do an additional test.

Still need to graduate?

You are welcome to apply even if you have not yet graduated. Most prospective students begin their application while still in their final year of high school. However, please note that you must have obtained your high school diploma in the academic year preceding the start of your studies.
