Sustainable Lochem is the central item in this pilot. The civil initiative “Lochem Energie” acquired within a few weeks over 1000 members, who intend to cooperate to the transition to sustainable energy. Not just by solar panels, but also by balancing supply and demand of energy through actively involving the citizens. A poll indicated that 94% of the citizens of Lochem actively support these plans.
All electricity produced must also be consumed. Currently, the maximum production capacity of sustainable sources may not exceed the minimal electricity demand. As such, supply of sustainable energy can only be limited. In this pilot, solutions from technical innovations will be demonstrated, as well as the possibilities to influence human behaviour. An existing network environment (which is the current situation in the Netherlands) will be made intelligent. Also the chosen solution needs to be scalable.
