Wednesday July 20th 2011 the UT organizes a seminar on the occasion of joining the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS). ERCIS is an international network of scientists of more than 20 research groups conducting cooperative research in the field of Information Systems. The network is headquartered at the University of Münster. Both universities have ICT and Information Systems Research among their focus areas.
Until now the Dutch Research Institute Novay was member in the network, but as the activities of the University of Twente better fit the goals of ERCIS, it has been decided to transfer the membership of Novay to UT.
On this occasion Prof. Jörg Becker of University of Münster will give an overview of the activities of ERCIS. ERCIS connects more than twenty leading information systems research groups in countries such as Germany, Austria, Finland, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Korea and the USA. ERCIS performs research in a European context. The network gives students and researchers access to international cooperation. Joint research projects are carried out often funded by the EU. ERCIS also facilitates the exchange of doctoral students and researchers.
Professor Peter Apers, Scientific Director of CTIT, will talk about the key role of ICT in many areas of society such as healthcare, energy and mobility. He will stress the great importance of international cooperation. Prof. Jos van Hillegersberg of the UT sees many opportunities for staff and students of the UT. "UT employees who spent as a guest researcher in Münster had a great experience. This kind of cooperation is now being expanded in the ERCIS context. We see opportunities for joint EU projects". Also for students, there are advantages. Van Hillegersberg: "for students it will be made easy to study internationally. Within ERCIS we are working on a European Course Catalogue which offers ERCIS members insight in courses offered. Through "Code Sharing" between ERCIS universities students can find courses follow abroad.
