CTIT Symposium 2007: “Enabling Sustainable and Personalised Healthcare with ICT”, Wednesday May 9th, 2007

“Enabling Sustainable and Personalised Healthcare with ICT”.

At May 9th, CTIT organizes its annual symposium. This year the theme is "Enabling Sustainable and Personalised Healthcare with ICT". With a challenging and varied programme featuring renowned international and national speakers we hope to present a lively and inspiring programme for representatives from academia, industry, and healthcare organizations. Amongst others there will be presentations by Prof. Yuval Shahar (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel) and Prof. Jan H. van Bemmel (Erasmus MC, Rotterdam). Furthermore, a panel discussion and a poster competition for PhD students will be organized.

Our current world is facing the challenge of delivering healthcare to citizens at high quality and affordable costs. Prolonged medical care for the ageing population, increasing expenses for managing chronic diseases, and the need for personal health systems are prevalent trends in this information intensive domain. The emerging situation necessitates a change in the way healthcare is delivered to the patient, and related information and processes are managed. ICT will be key to implement these changes. It will further contribute to reduce medical errors, to facilitate active participation of patients, and – in particular – to enable personalisation of care.

This CTIT symposium deals with different facets of personal health systems and healthcare information systems. It gives insights into the challenges, applications, and perspectives emerging for ICT in this context. Addressed topics include the optimisation of healthcare processes, the computerized support of medical guidelines, personalised (tele-)monitoring, and new “context-aware” ICT services in healthcare.
