Avatars can potentially make interrogations more efficient. However, a study by psychologists based at the Institute for Innovation and Governance Studies, a University of Twente research institute, shows that they are only effective if the subjects under interrogation believe that the avatar is under human control. The study was published in Frontiers in Psychology, an open access journal.
18 Apr 2016 - Moritz Müller received internet thesis award
Last Friday, the award ceremony for the internet thesis awards organized by the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities will take place in Haarlem. Moritz Müller, a graduate of the EIT Digital Master’s programme in Security and Privacy, will receive the thesis award in the ‘Internet and Engineering Sciences’ category. Mr Müller studied at the University of Trento in Italy during the first year of his programme and completed his studies at the University of Twente.

14 Apr 2016 - NWO-Call: Human Capital: Professional Games for Professional Skills Pre-proposals (Creative Technology)
Researchers and partners may apply for grants to finance research into Professional Games for Professional Skills that will raise the level of human capital in the Netherlands. The project design logically involves an actual educational or professional training context applying virtual reality or games. The company or institution that houses this context can be designated as ‘user’ of the project results.
13 Apr 2016 - UT alumna Dr. Litska Strikwerda has won the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum dissertation award
Dr. Litska Strikwerda, who completed her dissertation at the University of Twente in 2014, has won the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum dissertation award. She is one of five your researchers in the Netherlands to win the award, and her dissertation was selected out of 42 dissertations that were submitted by Dutch universities in the fields of humanities, social sciences and law. The prize consists of an award of € 3000,-.
13 Apr 2016 - Twente’s Robird to make its first flight at airports
Twente’s Robird made its first flights at an airport location. Weeze Airport in Germany, just across the Dutch border near Nijmegen, served as the test site for this life-like robotic falcon developed by Clear Flight Solutions, a spin-off company of the University of Twente. The Robird is designed to scare away birds at airports and waste processing plants.
