28 Apr 2016 - Arnd Hartmanns wins CI/ITG MMB Dissertation Award
The GI/ITG Technical Committee of "Measurement, Modelling and Evaluation of Computing Systems" has awarded to Arnd Hartmanns the MMB Dissertation Award 2016 at the biennial MMB & DFT conference in Münster on April 5, 2016.Arnd Hartmanns completed his Ph.D. with a thesis titled "On the Analysis of Stochastic Timed Systems" at Saarland University, Germany, supervised by Prof. Holger Hermanns. He joined the Formal Methods and Tools Group at the University of Twente as a postdoc in October 2015.

On Friday 1 July NWO is organising an information meeting for researchers that want to apply for a Veni, Vidi or Vici grant. Practical information will be given and laureates, selection committee members and NWO coordinators will share their experiences. The morning programme is for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the afternoon programme is for the Natural Sciences, Engineering and Life Sciences. The meetings will be held in English.

No less than 24 dorms on the campus of the University of Twente decided to join Sustainabattle: which one knows best how to save energy and shows true energy awareness? Energy consumption of all dorms will be shared online during the month of the competition, to make it even more exciting. Apart from lowest energy consumption, teams can also score points presenting sustainable plans for improving their dorm. Sustainabattle is one of the projects within the Living Smart Campus initiative.

Avatars can potentially make interrogations more efficient. However, a study by psychologists based at the Institute for Innovation and Governance Studies, a University of Twente research institute, shows that they are only effective if the subjects under interrogation believe that the avatar is under human control. The study was published in Frontiers in Psychology, an open access journal.
