26 May 2016 - Drone experts gather in Twente The University of Twente is cooperating with a number of European universities and companies on the development of autonomous drones for the inspection and maintenance of wind turbines and incinerators. The partners in this project (AEROWORKS) are meeting this week in Twente to showcase and coordinate their results. The project focuses on the autonomous inspection and maintenance of relatively inaccessible infrastructure. There is a particular emphasis on drones’ physical interactions with their environment. 23 May 2016 - CRIB SOLEIL STUDENT TEAM WINS SUSTAIN-A-BATTLE Cut your energy consumption by more than half, within a month. University of Twente students managed to do so, in Sustain-a-battle, a competition to make apartments the most energy-conscious and energy efficient on campus. In the final, on Thursday 12 May, the Crib Soleil team submitted twenty residential complexes for monitoring. Then, after the joint after-party, they went away with a refrigerator, a monetary contribution for a house party, and the “Most Sustainable Campus Residents of 2016” award. 20 May 2016 - Peter-Paul Verbeek in UNESCO commission on ethics Peter-Paul Verbeek has been appointed as a member of UNESCO's COMEST, the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. Irina Bokova, Director-General appointed the Professor of Philosophy of Technology at the University of Twente into the Commission, which consists of eighteen highly regarded key players in various disciplines (science, law, philosophy, culture and politics) from all over the globe. 6 May 2016 - ITEA3 Call for Proposals The ITEA3 Call for Proposals will be opened on September 13, 2016. However, the deadline is already on October 28, 2016! 4 May 2016 - NWO ERANET Plus Call Smart Grids is open! Recently, the NWO ERANET Plus Call Smart Grids has been opened! Researchers from knowledge institutes, together with at least 1 knowledge institute from another country/region can submit project proposals within the area of Smart Grids. NWO 'Exacte Wetenschappen' coördinates the Dutch participation to this call. 3 May 2016 - UT researchers are investigating the hacking of cars Is it possible to open a modern car without using a key? Yes, certainly! Thieves are familiar with this too, and it happens more and more. At the UT, Stefan van de Beek and prof. Frank Leferink are working on measures against these kinds of theft. 28 Apr 2016 - Aiko Pras honoured with the prestigious IFIP/IEEE Salah Aidarous Memorial Award 2016 Prof. dr. ir.
