3 Jun 2016 - NWO Talent Scheme Information meeting (Veni-vidi-vici) NWO organises information meetings for researchers who want to apply for a Veni, Vidi of Vici grant. Practical information is given and selection committee members, NWO coordinators and researchers who have already acquired a Veni, Vidi or Vici share their experiences during a question and answer session. The meetings are in English. The next information meeting will be held on 1 July 2016.  2 Jun 2016 - Robot carers safer with new technology Robots carry out their tasks more safely if they are controlled by another technology. This makes them much more suitable for use in the care sector, as revealed by a study conducted at the Robotics and Mechatronics department at the University of Twente. On 2 June, researcher Stefan Groothuis is being awarded his PhD for this work. 2 Jun 2016 - Best paper award for DACS researchers At the 14th IFIP International Conference on Wired & Wireless Internet Communications, WWIC 2016, Bernd Meijerink, Mitra Baratchi, and Geert Heijenk have received the best paper award for their paper "An efficient geographical addressing scheme for the Internet". Come and join us in Utrecht on June 8th, 2016, to learn more from the experts. 26 May 2016 - Drone experts gather in Twente The University of Twente is cooperating with a number of European universities and companies on the development of autonomous drones for the inspection and maintenance of wind turbines and incinerators. The partners in this project (AEROWORKS) are meeting this week in Twente to showcase and coordinate their results. The project focuses on the autonomous inspection and maintenance of relatively inaccessible infrastructure. There is a particular emphasis on drones’ physical interactions with their environment. 23 May 2016 - CRIB SOLEIL STUDENT TEAM WINS SUSTAIN-A-BATTLE Cut your energy consumption by more than half, within a month. University of Twente students managed to do so, in Sustain-a-battle, a competition to make apartments the most energy-conscious and energy efficient on campus. In the final, on Thursday 12 May, the Crib Soleil team submitted twenty residential complexes for monitoring. Then, after the joint after-party, they went away with a refrigerator, a monetary contribution for a house party, and the “Most Sustainable Campus Residents of 2016” award. 20 May 2016 - Peter-Paul Verbeek in UNESCO commission on ethics Peter-Paul Verbeek has been appointed as a member of UNESCO's COMEST, the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. Irina Bokova, Director-General appointed the Professor of Philosophy of Technology at the University of Twente into the Commission, which consists of eighteen highly regarded key players in various disciplines (science, law, philosophy, culture and politics) from all over the globe. 6 May 2016 - ITEA3 Call for Proposals The ITEA3 Call for Proposals will be opened on September 13, 2016. However, the deadline is already on October 28, 2016!
