22 Jan 2015 - Net Futures Information Day on H2020 ICT-2015, 6 February 2015 On February 6, 2015, the Net Futures Information Day on H2020 ICT-2015 will be organised in Brussels 22 Jan 2015 - Massive chip design savings to be realized IT researchers working at the University of Twente have developed a programming language making the massive costs associated with designing hardware more manageable. Chip manufacturers have been using the same chip design techniques for twenty years now. The current process calls for extensive testing after each design step - a massively expensive state of affairs. The newly developed, so-called functional programming language makes it possible to prove, in advance, that a design transformation is a hundred per cent error-free. 22 Jan 2015 - 'Fake Charity' wins Social Engineering Challenge The human is often the weakest link when information security is concerned. This observation made researchers of the UT's CTIT research institute want to discover, by means of the 2014 TREsPASS Social Engineering Challenge's scenarios, how swindlers and scammers manage to attack the human factor and hack into digital systems. This European challenge was won by Demetris Antoniou, who presented a plan on how to attack a company by capitalizing on the interests and passions of individual staff members. 22 Jan 2015 - Dutch engineers popular with US companies Many alumni of the three technical universities (Twente, Delft and Eindhoven) work in the United States. These universities recently began setting up joint local alumni chapters in places such as Boston, New York, Seattle, San Francisco and Houston. With over 3,000 members in the US, the network of these Dutch alumni is very impressive. For example, the worldwide network of Dutch alumni is larger than the alumni network of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  21 Jan 2015 - Arnoud den Boer awarded Gijs de Leve Prize Arnoud den Boer, of the Stochastic Operations Research department, has been awarded the Gijs de Leve Prize at the annual congress of the LNMB, the Dutch Network on the Mathematics of Operations Research. In awarding den Boer this prestigious prize, the jury recognized his doctoral thesis as the best PhD thesis in operations research defended in the last three years. 19 Jan 2015 - Shaping the Future of Digital Social Innovation in Europe, Workshop EU, 17 February 2015 17 February, 2015: The workshop "Shaping the Future of Digital Social Innovation in Europe" will be organized by the European Commission.  19 Jan 2015 - Call for STW Take-off Feasibility Studies is expected to be opened by February 1, 2015 Technology Foundation STW will shortly be inviting applications for its Take-off feasibility studies grants (former Valorisation Grants). It is expected that the next call will open on 1 February and will close on 1 March 2015 (information in Dutch). 16 Jan 2015 - STW-IWT bilateral OTP-projects (Dutch-Flemish Research Collaboration, a.o. HTSM/ICT) To stimulate bilateral cooperation between Flemish and Dutch researchers, STW and IWT have started a pilot for bilateral projects. Goal is (at the long term) to give researchers the possibility to submit cooperative project proposals to both organisations. Currently, the programme is paid under the OTP projects (at STW).
