22 Feb 2016 - Vanessa Evers wins Academic Society Award
On March 16th, during the Day of the Engineer, the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI) awards the Academic Society Award to professor Vanessa Evers, Professor of Social Robotics at the University of Twente. Professor Evers wins this award because of the appealing way in which she manages to make the connection between science and society.
22 Feb 2016 - Best paper award for Pieter-Tjerk de Boer (EWI/DACS) and Walter Scheinhardt (EWI/SOR) at Valuetools conference 2015
Pieter-Tjerk de Boer (EWI/DACS) and Walter Scheinhardt (EWI/SOR) have won the Best paper award for their paper: "Interactive comparison of hypothesis tests for statistical model checking" at the Valuetools Conference 2015, 14-16 December 2015, Berlin.
22 Feb 2016 - DACS Members one of the hackaton winners during the CAIDA BGP Hackathon 2016, in San Diego, USA
Ricardo Schmidt, Wouter de Vries and Mattijs Jonker from DACS participated in the CAIDA BGP Hackathon 2016, in San Diego, USA, on the weekend of Feb 6-7. They won the prize with "ANYCAST-1" (please find here some more information). The hackathon had about 90 participants from industry and academia, 50 of those competing in the hackathon challenge. The theme of the hackathon was "live BGP measurements and monitoring", and the challenge participants grouped in 15 teams to explore and implement measurement tools and frameworks.

16 Feb 2016 - UT launches Living Smart Campus
What is required to make better use of the University of Twente campus as a living lab, with experiments in which campus users play a primary role? UT students and staff were challenged to come up with ideas for the Living Smart Campus. Six pilot projects were selected from 50 entries: from health assessments by ‘Healthy Heroes’ to a competition for the most energy conscious student flat.

3 Feb 2016 - Students run car sharing project at Lochem Energie
The opportunity to test whether your ideas really work in practice: in the ‘From prototype to society’ minor, students got the chance to see whether their innovations really resonated with the community. As part of their High Tech Human Touch-module, Sander Gillissen, Joachim Batzke, Emily Bohan (all Industrial Design Engineering students), Daniël van der Vegt, Maximilian Möllers (both International Business Administration students) and Jule Krüger (Psychology) went to Lochem to run their car sharing project: Electrip.
2 Feb 2016 - Yakup Kilic receives PhD on Wireless Localisation and Tracking
Location-awareness is fast becoming an essential feature in many application areas. Yakup Kilic received his PhD at the Telecommunication Engineering group at the EWI Faculty on 21 January for his research on wireless localization and tracking. More information (EEMCS news, January 26, 2016)
