The Robotics master’s programme gives you the opportunity to setup a course programme that fits your own interests and future career (see Programme Information). This also means that you need to make a few choices, which have to be made at, or even before, the start of your programme. Therefore, some guidelines are given below to support you.
GETTING ASSISTANCE SETTING UP YOUR PROGRAMME
PROGRAMME MENTOR
Each specialisation has a programme mentor who can help you with defining your course programme. After having chosen your specialisation (and profile) you should contact the programme mentor of this specialisation to assemble your course programme. For each specialisation the six compulsory courses are fixed, but the remaining electives can be chosen from the course lists of the profiles, the application areas of interest or the free electives, in consultation with your programme mentor. The course programme as a whole must be approved by the programme mentor and your course registration form must be signed by the programme mentor.
STUDY ADVISOR
For general questions and advice, not specifically related to your course programme, please contact the study advisor.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The Academic Calendar shows you the main features of the academic year in Twente:
- Division of the year into four study periods (quarters/quartiles)
- Examination periods
- Holidays
This Academic Calendar is relevant for you as long as you have to take courses.
You can plan your internship and your MSc-thesis project without bothering about the education periods, but you should keep in mind holiday periods.
ROADMAP FOR THE ORGANISATION OF YOUR STUDY
Below we give a general roadmap with a time scheme that you can use to plan your study such that you can complete it in two years (the nominal time).
STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR SPECIALISATION
Point of time: before the start of your study
Please, choose your specialisation before arriving in Twente. Each specialisation has its own set of compulsory technical courses. Therefore you cannot assemble a course programme if you did not choose a specialisation yet.
STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR profile
Point of time: before the start of your study
Please, choose your profile before arriving in Twente or during the introduction period. Each profile has its own set of elective courses you should choose from. Therefore you cannot assemble a course programme if you did not choose a profile yet.
STEP 3: CHOOSE THE COURSES OF THE FIRST QUARTER OF YOUR PROGRAMME AT THE START OF YOUR PROGRAMME
Point of time: Introduction period
During the introduction period before the start of the programme you have a discussion with the programme mentor of the chosen specialisation. During this meeting the courses for the first quarter must be chosen. To select free electives, you can consult the list of elective courses of the Robotics programme or any of the courses mentioned in lists of the other specialisations and profiles.
STEP 4: DISCUSS and finalise your PROGRAMME
Point of time: during the first quarter after the start of your study
Contact (again) the programme mentor of your specialisation. With him/her you can discuss your interests and preferences that finally should lead to the full course programme, next to the six compulsory courses
- Propose electives yourself, and discuss your choice with your mentor. He/she checks on consistency of the course set, and can help in case you are not sure yet. The course programme must be approved by the programme mentor.
- The compulsory courses are in princiole the compulsory courses of your specialisation. Deviation from this is exceptional and needs approval of the mentor and the Examination Board.
- If applicable, propose the variant of Year 2 you would like to go for, and discuss with your mentor whether this is the best choice.
Students from UAS, and students whose acceptance conditions indicate so, need to choose variant 2. See EER, Article B3.1 and B3.10 for furhter details - In case you and your mentor do not come to an agreement on your programme, you can request the Examination Board to mediate, who then decides.
STEP 5: REGISTER YOUR COURSE LIST
Point of time: not later than two weeks before the end of the first quarter
You must register your course list by filling in the registration form and submit it to the Educational Affairs Office (BOZ). It must be signed by your programme mentor and by yourself.
You should do this not later than two weeks before the end of the first quarter.
STEP 6: PREPARE YOUR INTERNSHIP
Point of time: Half a year before the planned start of the internship
Start preparing your internship about half a year before you plan to start the internship itself. Twice a year, information sessions are held about the internship, in September and April. You can find them in the timetables of the master’s programmes.
Note: To start your internship you must have completed courses from your course programme for a minimum of 45EC, including all compulsory courses of the first year of your specialisation. You can prepare your internship before satisfying this requirement. The reference date for this requirement is the starting date of your internship.
STEP 7: PREPARE YOUR MSc-THESIS PROJECT
When you know when you will get back at the UT from your internship, or almost have finished all courses (Variant 3 of Year 2), then you might start preparing your MSc-thesis project, because it is the last subject in your programme. Keep in mind that this preparation can take about a month or so.
