As of 12-12-2024, Safelinks functionality will change. From that date, URLs will no longer be rewritten, and you will no longer see https://safelinks.protection.outlook.com URLs in messages.
Instead, the original URL will be displayed. In Outlook (on the PC, Mac and Online) for example, this will hardly be noticeable, where the original URL was always visible in the foreground. In other software such as Thunderbird or plain text messages, displaying the original URL will improve readability.
In the background, a security check is still done on standard UT workstations when clicking on the original URL.
When using other than the standard Office software, this Safelinks check is missing and you are therefore less well protected, keep that in mind.
In both cases, the rule of thumb applies: Do not open URLs where you have doubts about their reliability, Computer Emergency Response Team - University of Twente (CERT-UT) can give advice if desired.
