Saving Energy Together During the Holidays!

The holiday season is approaching, and this is the perfect moment to contribute to a more sustainable campus while reducing unnecessary energy costs. As part of the Minor Energy Transition Challenges, Imre Kersting is working on a project to reduce standby energy consumption and energy waste, and we kindly ask for your help!

How can you help?

Before heading off for the holidays, we ask you to:

  • Fully switch off non-essential devices and, where possible, unplug them from the socket. This includes monitors, chargers, printers, and other electronic devices.
  • Completely turn off devices that are not in use, as many of these still consume energy in standby mode (phantom load).

Just as you probably wouldn’t leave all the lights on at home while on vacation, we can do the same here in Carré. With a few small actions, we can make a big difference together!

Why is this important?

With these simple actions, we can:

  • Significantly reduce energy waste.
  • Contribute to a more sustainable campus.
  • Measure the impact of collective efforts to save energy during the holidays.

What will be done with the results?

We will monitor energy consumption in the Carré building during the holiday period and compare it to regular weeks. This will provide insight into how much energy can be saved collectively and how we can further improve this in the future.

Do you have any questions, ideas, or comments?

Feel free to contact Imre Kersting at I.w.kersting@student.utwente.nl. Suggestions are always welcome, and questions will be gladly answered.

Thank you for your cooperation in making Carré more energy-efficient. Together, we can make a big difference!
