Writing English? The UT language pack and English Style Guide are here to support!

UT has opted for UK English as its standard language for corporate texts and publications. But what does that mean, what do you need to pay attention to whilst writing? In order to facilitate  the writing of UT texts in UK English, two very useful tools have been developed:

1) UT’s Language Pack for English: through the Software Centre (https://www.utwente.nl/en/service-portal/hardware-software-network/software/software-for-your-work-computer-windows-managed-by-software-centre), you can download this language pack, with which in just one click you can set UK English as the default language on your computer.

This extremely useful tool, built by LISA, will also make UK English the default language in all Office programs and will activate the automatic checking of your writing and spelling. This way, you will see immediately whether something has gone wrong and save time!

2) The UT English Style Guide: this style guide tells you everything you need to know about spelling, punctuation, abbreviations, capitalisation and much, much more. The UT English Style Guide can be found here : (https://www.utwente.nl/en/ces/language-centre/organisation/english-styleguide/)

Of course, our free editing services are available to perform a final check on your non-scientific documents.

For installing the language pack and some quick language tips, view the attachment. Please note that your VPN needs to be activated before installing the language pack. Do you need help installing the language pack? Please contact the Servicedesk ICT (LISA) at: servicedesk-ict@utwente.nl
