Online lecture 'Introduction social psychology'

Click on the video below to view an example lecture by one of the COM teachers on the topic ’Introduction social psychology’. This is a recorded lecture instead of an offline lecture due to the corona virus outbreak and is about people as social animals and why they perform certain behaviours. In the lecture you will see several ground-braking experiments that show how the way humans act can be easily affected by means of different communication cues, without them even being aware of it.

COMMUNICATION SCIENCE at the UNIVERSIty of TWENTE

What makes Communication Science at the UT unique? You can read it here:

  • It's a tech world

Technology is everywhere in today’s society. From countryside to city centre, from factory to meeting room, from hospital to sports field, or from nursery school to retirement home – wherever you go, digitalisation and other technologies are playing an increasingly prominent role. We don’t all have to understand all this tech, but you will have a lot of extra possibilities and career opportunities in your field if you understand how technology influences what we do and who we are, and how best to respond to those influences.

  • We are pioneers in integrating social and technical sciences

Enrolling in a social, management or behavioural sciences programme at UT means that you will be exposed to the latest technologies on a daily basis. It means you will connect and team up with people who know what the possibilities are, and the direction in which things are headed. On top of that, we are experts at bringing together very different disciplines. Increasingly this multidisciplinary approach yields the very best solutions. For example, think of psychologists using Virtual Reality to help people overcome their fear of hights, or who know how to use wearables to influence behaviour. Think of public administration experts using Big Data to make the smartest choices regarding migration or environmental issues. Or communication professionals who understand and can improve the interaction between people and technology – for example, among population groups at risk of falling behind in our digital society, such as the elderly, or among those leading the way in new digital media, such as children and students. At UT you will come into contact with essential tech developments in a natural way – both during the courses and throughout the many team projects you work on. This will give you a major edge on the job market later: you will be perfectly equipped to take on all kinds of roles and positions in our present and future society!

  • We are a tech university with a very large social science department

As a technical university, we know from years of experience that technology alone is not enough to impact society. Our experts in other sciences – such as business and public administration experts, psychologists, philosophers and ethicists – play a crucial part in our vision of society and the role of technology in it. That is why, as a ‘people-first university of technology’ with a High Tech Human Touch approach, we have such a solid social science department.

DAAN'S VLOG AS COMMUNICATION SCIENCE STUDENT

In this vlog he tells what it is like to study Communication Science at the UT - he takes you for a day and gives you information that we would like to give you during our Open days.

Of course, Daan cannot show you the entire campus and a visit to the campus is not yet possible - after the outbreak of the corona virus. But we do have our brand new campus film - see everything the unique campus of the University of Twente has to offer. We hope to see you on our campus soon - on your first day as a Communication Science student, perhaps?
