September Update of Transitioning towards Resilient Multimodal Corridors using Digital Twinning Blog Update on Progress and Collaborations

Project Update: Progress on Data Sources, Platforms, and Digital Twin Development

During our recent meeting, we explored surprising insights from stakeholder interviews, particularly regarding how shippers access real-time information. Interestingly, many rely on Teletext for last-minute updates—a somewhat outdated method it might seem. However, for experienced shippers who follow repetitive routes, this system still meets their needs by providing essential disruption alerts.

We also examined the EuRIS platform, a European initiative launched in 2006 to share real-time shipping information whichoffers valuable tools like voyage planners and expected arrival times.

Also key data elements necessary for building the Digital Twin (DT), are currently reviewed such as water levels and minimal navigable depths. This government-measured data is crucial to our model, and integrating it effectively could enhance decision-making processes for all stakeholders. Importantly, fostering better communication about how data is shared and how often it is updated will be a key factor in the success of this project.

With the students of Windesheim hogeschool a resilience scan is carried out at the stakeholders premises. Hopefully we will be able to share the results coming out of this scan soon!

Lastly, we discussed the various roles of public agencies in managing waterways, which change depending on water-level scenarios. Understanding these roles will be critical as we continue to develop the DT architecture and promote more dynamic collaboration between stakeholders and government bodies.

We're looking forward to advancing these aspects and refining the project further!
