Celebrate co-speculation! By you and the crew

Alternative futures from non-repeating history

  • What: An Imagine and Ideate exercise, to 'tangibilise' futures and abstract concepts
  • When: After 'what brought us here?
  • Goal: Explore futures stopping self-fulfilling prophecies
  • Duration: 1 hour for full exercise

Introduction

Explore futures stopping self-fulfilling prophecies.

How it works

PHASE 1

  1. Choose one of the factors of the exercise 'what brought us here?' (the one you consider the most thought provoking).
  2. Imagine this changes drastically in the future (in the context of your challenge).
  3. Place it in the center of the Futures Wheel with a WHAT IF statement.
  4. What would be the direct impacts of that and
  5. indirect implications of that change?

PHASE 2

  1. Imagine an object/service/experience/job that would exist in that world. What could it be?
  2. 'Provotype' it
Tip(s) for moderator

The concept of 'provotyping' is new for most participants. Make it playful and give examples to inspire them.

Examples from speculative design are inspiring and set the scene for participants to provoke and create futures in a tangible and critical way.

Output

A tangible portray of a future.

Material(s)

Next step(s)

Any 'Reflect and Reframe' exercise.
