Best IEM master thesis award for Josien Mourik for her thesis on redistributing unused medication
Great news during the Bekader Thesis Awards event 2023 organized by the alumni association for UT graduates of business and management studies (IEM and (I)BA): Our former student Josien Mourik won the best IEM master thesis award! Josien and the other finalists received their awards at a ceremony on November 23rd.
Josien is alumna of the master’s program Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), and received the award for her outstanding master thesis on “Reducing unused medication at Isala Zwolle by redistribution”, supervised by our IEBIS/CHOIR colleagues Patricia Rogetzer and Gréanne Leeftink. Josien is spurred by her drive to improve sustainability in healthcare. She identified an opportunity for reusing unused medication that was until then unnecessarily disposed of. Josien analyzed the effects of redistributing these unused medications through an analytical model, and thereafter a pilot in practice. Her research shows that without increasing staffing levels Isala Zwolle can safely and cost-efficiently redistribute more than 6,000 unused medication units per week.
Do you want to know more about how Isala Zwolle is now handling unused medication in a sustainable manner? See https://www.isala.nl/nieuws/duurzaam-medicijngebruik/ (in Dutch).
Congratulations Josien!
