Funded by the Orange Knowledge Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project “Capacity Building in WASH and CSA Education and research in Palestine” aimed to strengthen education and research in the Palestinian water sector. Specific objectives of the project were improving climate smart agriculture (CSA) and access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through good governance and effective management.
Project coordinator was An-Najah National University, and the partners were Al-Quds University, Polytechnic University, Birzeit University, Hebron University, Palestine Technical University Kadoorie, Islamic University of Gaza, Al Azhar University of Gaza, and Arab American University from Palestine and the University of Twente, IHE Delft, Wageningen University, TU Delft and Vrije Universiteit from the Netherlands.
Main outcomes of the project include the improvement of curricula in CSA and WASH at Palestinian universities to match labour market requirements, enhancement of the capacities of academic and non-academic staff and water sector stakeholders through tailor-made trainings, and exchange of education know-how among Palestinian and Dutch organisations.
The university of Twente has been represented by Gül Özerol from CSTM/BMS and Suhyb Salama from ITC.
