Following the motto “Warm yourself, not the world!” Green Hub Twente is promoting the 15th "warmetruiendag" (warm sweater day) supporting UT´s sustainability goal of reducing CO2 emission and energy consumption. UT´s Shaping 2030 strategy towards a sustainable transformation focuses on sustainable campus solutions aiming at a reduction of the carbon footprint by at least 15% until 2023.
Wear a cosy sweater
In times of COVID-19 many people are working from home instead of on campus, however, the responsibility of lowering emissions and having a positive impact on the environment does not vanish. Therefore, Green Hub Twente is motivating everybody to participate in the warm sweater day and contribute to shaping a healthy, environmentally friendly, and sustainable future for everyone. The inclusive collective action approach of wearing a cosy sweater can connect us as UT community in the times of home-office and lockdown.
Easily save 6%
The warm sweater day is a great opportunity for everybody to work on their carbon footprint. It offers climate solutions for every student or staff. Participation is easy, turn down the heating and put on a warm sweater or use a cosy blanket. Often, temperatures at home are higher than necessary to feel comfortable. Putting on a sweater is no big deal, but the impact is large. While lowering the temperature by 1 degree, you can save 6% energy and CO2. That means, if the whole Netherlands lowers the temperature by 1 degree Celsius for only 1 day, 6.3 million kilos of CO2 can be saved. If the temperature is lowered for an entire heating season, no less than 1 megaton of CO2 will be saved. Let us improve our sustainability impact: “Goodbye coal and gas, hello energy savings!”
