Which management study suits me?

How can companies become more sustainable without compromising their profits? How can we keep healthcare affordable and accessible for everyone? And how can governments protect citizens’ safety and privacy rights in the digital age? Effective management is crucial in addressing such questions, especially in a world full of technological and societal developments. Are you considering a management-related study but unsure which direction to take? Let’s explore your options.

Do you enjoy organising things and working with different people and teams? Are you interested in how businesses, organisations, or governments operate and make decisions? If so, a management programme could be a great fit for you! But the question is: which one?

At the University of Twente, you can choose from several bachelor’s studies in management, business administration, public administration, and related fields. But what are the differences, and how do you determine which degree suits you best? Here’s a breakdown to help you out!

International Business Administration

Do you have a business mindset? Are you curious about how companies operate in today’s digital world? Then the Bachelor’s in International Business Administration might be the right choice for you. In this programme, you’ll learn how to help businesses grow, innovate, and operate more sustainably—all while balancing people, the planet, and profit. You’ll become skilled in business strategy, marketing, finance, and management, while also gaining international experience—after all, modern businesses are not limited by national borders.

By the end of your study, you’ll have a strong understanding of the financial, legal, and strategic aspects of running a business, preparing you to manage a successful company—or even start your own! Wherever you choose to work, as a business administration graduate, the world is full of opportunities.

Industrial Engineering & Management

Efficient and effective business processes are key to an organisation’s success. In the Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering & Management, you’ll learn how to design, manage, and improve these processes. And this study can be more technical than you might expect—it’s called ‘Industrial Engineering’ for a reason. 😉

As an IEM student, you’ll learn how to use data to make predictions and solve logistical and financial challenges. For example, how can supermarkets stock their shelves in a way that reduces food waste? Or how can airports schedule flights to minimise delays? This programme equips you with skills in management, mathematics, data analysis, market insights, and teamwork. If you’re looking for a business administration programme with a technical edge, Industrial Engineering & Management is the perfect choice!

Management, Society & Technology

Are you interested in management but more focused on governments and public organisations? Then Management, Society & Technology might be the ideal programme for you. This study focuses on complex societal issues that policymakers and politicians face today, such as climate change, housing shortages, cybercrime, and migration. You’ll learn to understand the challenges of modern society and develop policies to improve the world around us.

During this programme, you’ll not only become an expert in public administration, but you’ll also gain insight into the latest technologies and their impact on society. You’ll explore how emerging technologies—like artificial intelligence—are changing the world and whether laws and policies are keeping up. You’ll be at the forefront of shaping the policies of the future!

Business Information Technology

Are you interested in both management and computer science? Then Business Information Technology could be the right fit for you! This programme combines business administration with IT, teaching you how to develop technical solutions to business challenges—exactly what modern companies need in today’s digital world. You’ll learn how businesses can use IT to improve their performance and how to translate business challenges into innovative software solutions.

After graduating, you’ll not only have a solid understanding of business administration but also be skilled in IT—giving you a competitive edge in the job market. Your technical background will prepare you for the challenges of the ever-evolving digital business landscape.

Health Sciences

Vaccination programmes, digital health apps, health insurance, and quality control: healthcare is about much more than medicine and patient care. Behind the scenes, countless processes keep healthcare systems running smoothly—including management and administration. In the Bachelor’s in Health Sciences, you’ll study the procedural, legal, and financial aspects of healthcare. You’ll work on implementing and evaluating healthcare innovations, developing (preventative) policies, and monitoring healthcare quality.

This is especially important as the healthcare system in the Netherlands, like in many countries, is under pressure. With staff shortages and rising costs, healthcare organisations face major challenges—challenges that, as a health scientist, you’ll help solve. If you’re interested in management and administration but also have a passion for health and wellbeing, this could be the perfect programme for you!

The next step: are you eligible?

Have you found a study that interests you? The next step is to check whether you meet the entry requirements. For most management studies at the University of Twente, a pre-university diploma (vwo) is sufficient, regardless of your subject choices. However, some programmes, such as Industrial Engineering & Management and Business Information Technology, require specific mathematics qualifications. Be sure to check the exact entry requirements for your chosen programme.

Still unsure which programme is the best fit? Come and experience student life at the University of Twente! Plan an online meet-up with a student, where you’ll attend lectures alongside a current student in your chosen programme. This is a great way to get a feel for the course and compare different options. Or visit an (online) Open Day to gather even more information! Research, experience, and then make your decision. No matter which degree you choose, a management study will set you up for an exciting and promising future!
