    Time: 08.30 - 09.00
    Location: Dojo Sports Centre UT
Given by: Staff from the Department of Psychology, Health and Technology

*DOES NOT TAKE PLACE DUE TO ILLNESS*

When we begin our day with a morning meditation, we give ourselves the best chance to feel fully aware, awake and alive before we "do" anything. By creating a regular morning routine, we cultivate peace of mind and happy relationships in which we are kinder and less judgmental of ourselves and others

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. there is a day-start meditation in the Dojo at the Sports Centre.

Beginners and those who have been meditating for some time are welcome. On Tuesdays there is an opportunity (around 8:20) for sitting instruction. We will explore how to sit on a meditation cushion in a way that is comfortable for you.

On Fridays there is room for conversation after meditation. Meditation cushions are available in the dojo. Staff from the Department of Psychology, Health and Technology with experience in various streams (Mindfulness, Vipassana, Zen) of meditation will be guiding the session these mornings. If desired for the group in attendance, guided mediation may be offered.

You do not have to sign up for the morning meditation; everyone is welcome!

So, would you like to know what you can do yourself to benefit your health? And how you can make nutritious and quick meals on a budget? You are more than welcome to join this inspiring lecture. We will discuss the relationship between your gut, your blood sugar and your energy level. And which practical meals you can eat to improve that relationship.

    Date: 14 November
    Time: 16:00
    Location: will be announced later
    Organisation: SACC

Many people recognize that feeling of restlessness in your body, of nervousness. Your breathing moves suddenly from your stomach to your ribs or even higher and your breathing rate shoots up. Sometimes it is difficult to relax afterwards.

With prolonged stress, your breathing slowly becomes disrupted. In an almost imperceptible way, you begin to breathe more and more shallowly and less efficiently. This costs your body an unnecessary amount of energy and can cause various physical and mental tension complaints.

This breathing workshop briefly discusses the effects of good breathing. Furthermore, short exercises will be done that can lower the stress level.

  • WED - Running Therapy

    Date: 15 November
    Time: 17.00 - 18.00

Running therapy is suitable for anyone who wants to actively work towards improving their mental health. We understand that exercising can sometimes be a challenge, but it can actually contribute to your well-being for the rest of the day. By running or walking, you can recharge yourself. The sessions are suitable for people with anxiety, depression, and/or stress-related symptoms. During the session you will walk/ slowly run, it is thus not needed to be in perfect shape in order to participate with the running therapy.
It can be challenging to overcome mental fatigue with exercise, especially if you already feel tired. That is why starting to move when you notice mental or stress symptoms and when your head is full is crucial. During the sessions, we will practice building a exercise routine and relaxation moments through movement in your week.
It is important that Running Therapy provides a safe environment. You don’t necessarily have to express anything, but there is room to do so if you wish.

Please note that the sessions take place outdoors, rain or shine, to ensure continuity. We therefore recommend wearing sports clothing and walking or running shoes that you can move comfortably in.

Be sure to sign up quickly since there are only limited places available. You will receive an email with whether or not you can participate since it is unfortunately not possible to put an automatic stop in the sign up system for when the maximum participants are reached.

  • TUE - Stress Management Workshop

    Date: 28 November
    Time: 13:30 - 18:00h
    Location: On Campus

The greatest myth about stress is that a stress-free life exists at all. Dealing with your study, social life, work, sports and everything else, is a lot and feeling stressed now and then is inevitable. Sometimes feeling stressed can help us and be a positive thing. That being said, it is possible to learn how to deal with stress, so it becomes more manageable and you feel less overwhelmed by it. This stress management workshop, developed by the student psychologists of the University of Twente, provides you with information about stress and tools regarding how to handle stress.

Nothing changes if nothing changes. If you do want things to change, we would like to encourage you to sign up for this workshop and we will provide you with tools to make that change.

This workshop requires active participation. Learning how to deal with stress is an ongoing process and you will be asked to keep on working on this after the workshop.

Veritas-Forum features a believer and a non-believer debating with each other and the audience. Dr Gert-Jan Segers was chairman of the ChristenUnie parliamentary party. Dr Marijke Schotanus-Dijkstra is a scientist at Psychology, Health and Technology (BMS, UT); she researches how to flourish in life. In collaboration with Veritas-Forum Twente and Well-Being Weeks UT. This program is in Dutch, click here.
