Successful symposium “Brain-on-Chip” by OoCCT

On 30 November 2023 the Organ-on-Chip Centre Twente hosted a successful symposium themed “Brain-on-Chip”. Two speakers inspired us with their research and developments in the field of Brain-on-Chip. Over a nice lunch we could listen to Susanna Narkilahti from Tampere University tell us about her work on innervation and vascularization. She was followed by Joost Le Feber from University of Twente who shared his work on the Penumbra-on-Chip. There was a high attendance from researchers throughout the university, creating a lively discussion on the topic.

Speakers

Dr. Susanna Narkilahti is head of the NeuroGroup at Tampere University in Finland. Her group is part of the Centre of Excellence in Body-on-Chip Research consortium (CoEBoC). Her research focuses on applications of in vitro modelling of biological processes and neurological diseases, graft development, and neurotoxicity screening platforms.

Dr. Joost le Feber is assistant professor at the University of Twente. He plays a key role on the research theme "neurotechnology and cellular engineering" at the Biomedical Signals and Systems group. His current research focuses on bridging the gap between cellular neurophysiology and cognitive processes.

Introduction by OoCCT scientific lead Liliana Moreira Teixeira.

Susanna Narkilahti introduces the CoEBoC consortium.

Susanna Narkilahti explains her groups work on growing neurons on a chip.

Joost le Feber shares his work with penumbra-on-chip.

Joost le Feber explains the effect of reduced oxygen on neuronal cell activity.
