At the TechMed Event on 6 November the Organ-on-Chip Centre Twente hosted a session discussing the pioneering perspectives of becoming a Twente hub for transitioing into animal-free innovation.
As the global demand for ethical and sustainable scientific practices intensifies, the transition to animal-free innovation has become a pivotal focus in biomedical research and development. This session highlighted Twente's emerging role as a leading hub for pioneering advancements in this field.
Featuring a panel of experts from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies, we explored the latest technologies and methodologies driving this transformation.
Erica is programme manager at the ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature for the national programme Transition into Animal-free Innovation (Transitie proefdiervije innovatie, TPI). In her presentation she highlighed the ambition and opportunities of the Dutch government for animal-free innovation.
Saskia Aan is chair of the Young TPI, a group of enthusiastic and motivated young professionals that are connected in their interest in the transition towards animal-free innovations and ambition to contribute to the acceleration of the transition.
She was accompanied by Young TPI member José Rivera Arbelaez from University of Twente to give the Twente perspective.
Daniela holds the chair Comparative Anatomy and Physiology at Utrecht University. Since 2019 she is the chair of TPI Utrecht. TPI Utrecht has worked on many interdisciplinary projects to improve the quality of scientific research and education by supporting animal-free innovations.
Carlo Alberto is the co-founder and head of research of chiron, an organ-on-chip company, spin out of the University of Twente.
