Sven Klein Avink did his master assignment on "the influences of viscoelastic constraints in precision mechanisms" in cooperation with the Precision Engineering group. An out-of-the-box approach to tailor an elastomer being able to compensate for low frequent misalignments while high parasitic eigenfrequencies are increased was the winning solution to this problem. For his work, Sven got the Wim van Hoek award for the best master assignment in construction and mechanical engineering. Sven extended the work of Wim van Hoek by the addition of a material component using an analytical, numerical and experimental approach.
