[Intamin] Multibody Dynamics of a Spinning Roller Coaster

Located in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, Intamin Holland has decades of experience in mechanical design, structural- and fatigue analysis of dynamically loaded structures like roller coasters, free-fall rides and giant wheels. Intamin Holland puts its efforts on further elaboration and development of attractions from conceptual design to final design by using the most sophisticated 3D CAD and CAE simulation software.

Through the years, roller coasters have become more and more spectacular and innovative. Different variants have been built to seek and go beyond the limits of thrill and excitement. One of these variants is the Intamin Spinning Coaster. This gives a spinning experience on a train, with a freely rotating gondola all along the ride. Multibody simulation tools have been used to develop this ride.

A multibody dynamics simulation of the Intamin Spinning Coaster shall be developed in the program Simcenter Motion. Further focus will be on the development of the multibody model of the wheel set, which consists of a frame that connects the wheels to the track by means of spring-damper systems. Wheel-rail contact shall be studied, and spring-damper characteristic parameter variations shall be researched to find the optimal adjustments.
