Science Café Flood Resilient Landscapes
On Thursday, April 10, the innovation project Flood Resilient Landscapes (Waterveiligheidslandschappen) came to a close after 1.5 years of collaboration.
In this project, initiated by the Dutch Flood Protection Program (HWBP), a diverse consortium worked together to further developed a methodology to better integrate flood prevention with spatial planning, aiming to create a flood resilient landscape for the year 2100.
To mark the end of the project and to share this methodology, Joanne Vinke-de Kruijf and Max de Vries joined and organized a Science Café in Amersfoort. Around 60 professionals from across the Netherlands took part in this event, where we discussed and applied parts of this methodology in an open and interactive setting.
What became clear during the discussions is that the challenges we face are highly interdependent, and that we have to start making choices today to ensure a flood-resilient tomorrow. That sense of urgency was shared by many in the room.
