ORTEP Project concluded

Within the iDEEGO ORTEP (Open Real Time Development Platform for Smart Grids) project, Smart State Technology BV and the University of Twente have developed an open platform for hosting real-time energy management applications using synchronized data. On this platform an energy management system (EMS) based on the TRIANA methodology using the DEMKit software is tested. The goal of this EMS is to use real-time data to resolve prediction errors that are normally present in predictions and plannings of power profiles in 15-minute interval driven markets.

Combining the 15-minute interval-based planning with the real-time data from the ORTEP-platform has enabled a control system that resolves prediction errors. As a result, the system is able to keep the imported/exported power in all three considered test cases within considerably smaller margins than the original TRIANA concept, or other control methods such as e.g., greedy charging of batteries. These smaller margins translate into an EMS that, thanks to the real-time data, is able to operate low-voltage grids closer to their limits in a reliable manner.
