From June 17th to 20th, eleven colleagues from our research group traveled to Rotterdam to take part in this year’s ACM e-Energy conference. It has been a great few days filled with inspiring talks, engaging discussions, and the chance to connect with researchers from around the world working on energy systems and smart technologies.

We were excited to contribute to the conference program in several ways. The day before the main conference, Marco Gerards, Gerwin Hoogsteen, and Johann Hurink organized the 1st International Workshop on Computational Aspects of Energy Flexibility (CAEF), which brought together researchers to discuss current challenges related to energy flexibility. During the main conference, Leoni Winschermann gave a presentation on her paper "Optimizing Electric Vehicle Scheduling with Charging Guarantees using Flow Models with Local Penalties", sparking some interesting follow-up discussions.
In the poster session of the main conference, our group was well represented:
- Verena Menzel presented "Interfacing Process-Aware Intrusion Detection for Distributed Energy Sources with DEMKit"
- Amirhossein Heydarian Ardakani showcased "Embedding Temporal Awareness in Reinforcement Learning Models for Energy System Control"
- Silvana Matrone shared her work on "Probabilistic Forecast of EV Charging Demand using Quantile Regression and LSTM with Attention Mechanism"
- Lisa Willemsen presented "Towards Accurately Explaining Battery Behavior: Learning the Parameters of Analytical Battery Models"
We’re especially proud that the posters by Amirhossein Heydarian Ardakani, Silvana Matrone, and Lisa Willemsen were selected as the three candidates for the Best Poster Award. In the end, Amirhossein Heydarian Ardakani took home the award for the best poster – congratulations!
