PhD Defence: Bart Nijenhuis

On 28 May 2025, our colleague Bart Nijenhuis successfully defended his PhD thesis titled "Organisation of Electric Vehicle Charging: Perspectives of Distribution System Operators, End Users, and Charge Point Operators".

In his work, Bart looked at how EV charging can be better organised to support the energy transition. Through simulations and field tests, he showed how smart charging—coordinated by DSOs, shaped by user input, and managed by CPOs—can reduce grid stress, cut costs, and make better use of local renewables.

Supervised by Johann Hurink and Gerwin Hoogsteen, Bart tackled real-world challenges with practical solutions.

Congrats, Dr. Bart, and all the best for what’s next!
