Last week, students and colleagues from various places within UT worked together during a brainstorming session on the topic of student preboarding. The brainstorming session was organised by the project group Preboarding.
This group focuses on maximalising Dutch BSc student influx as part of the Taskforce Influx. During preboarding, a large number of students drop out. UT’s conversion rate is 24%: this means that only 24% of the students who register for a BSc at UT in Studielink, will actually start their BSc studies at UT. The project group Preboarding studied the experiences of students during this phase and found seven main opportunities for improvement of conversion.
They invited current students, colleagues from our faculties, and colleagues from CES and MC to contribute by generating ideas on the following seven opportunities phrased from a student perspective (in no particular order).
As a prospective student, I want to...
- Get more insights into studying at UT
- Be well-informed about matching activities by UT
- Feel if a study suits me and if I could feel at home there
- Experience what it is like to study at UT
- Be well-informed about the application, registration, and admission processes at UT
- Be informed in communication ways that are easy for me
- Be advised by my environment (family, friends, deans) about possible fields of study, and possible institutions and making a definitive decision
A high number of concrete ideas was discussed and then prioritised using dot voting. Some ideas that came up, are already being done at UT. In this case, the brainstorming session acts as confirmation. Thanks to all the students and colleagues who contributed!
It was decided that the Preboarding project group would further develop ideas on school information sessions, matching procedures, and the application, registration, and admission process. After the testing phase, the group aims to implement these ideas together with relevant stakeholders in the near future. They plan to give another update on developments soon.
