The University of Twente's scores in the latest National Student Survey (NSE) are largely the same as in 2021. Today, the results were announced by the organisation of the comparative national survey among students at universities and colleges. The University of Twente scores above average in all aspects.
Students were asked to reflect on various aspects of their studies between 17 January and 13 March. Thirty-six per cent of UT students took part in the survey. This makes the response rate of UT students the third highest in the Netherlands. The number of students participating is a good indicator of student involvement. The response rate for bachelor's students (37 per cent) was slightly higher than for master's students (35 per cent). At all Dutch universities, a decline in response was noted. In 2021, 44 per cent of UT students still participated.
In the NSE, students at the various universities are asked a number of general questions and various questions in five different categories: General skills, academic skills, study load, international aspects and participation. On all these themes the UT scores above average. When asked about the general opinion of the study programme, the UT even scores in third place of all Dutch universities. Master's students are slightly more positive than bachelor's students.
In addition to the questions asked at all universities, the University of Twente chose to question UT students about their experiences with regard to diversity, equality and inclusion. The UT believes that providing a safe, trusted and inclusive community is of great importance and would like to know how students experience the university in these areas.
Although the figures do not differ much from 2021, there are some shifts. The strongest decrease compared to 2021 is the rating for study load. This went from 3.55 to 3.50 (on a scale of 1 to 5). On the other hand, the score for international aspects went up, from 3.50 to 3.54.
The question on which the UT obtained the highest score was the statement 'I feel safe to be myself at the institution where I study': 4.38. The NSE also shows that students greatly appreciate the content expertise of their lecturers: 4.31. The UT achieved the lowest score on the question to what extent the study credits to be obtained (ECTS-credits) correspond with the study load experienced. (3,26).
The results of the NSE are an important input for improving education at UT. The study programmes enter into dialogue with students about the good points and possibilities for improvement in order to see together how the study programme can develop further. The results of the NSE also form input for information for those choosing a course, such as the Keuzegids. In October the Keuzegids Universiteiten will be published with all bachelor's programmes, in March the Keuzegids Master will be published.
