value mapping
|
Introduction
Gaining a systemic understanding of the challenge by exploring connections and interdependencies among actors and their values.
How it works
- Following from the 'Stakeholder mapping' exercise, pick the most 6 relevant stakeholders for the societal challenge at hand (based on their amount of power and influence).
- Position them on the 'Perspective taking' template, with their associated values. Reflect on these values, discuss what they mean and why they matter to the stakeholders.
- Observe the values and think of how they are connected: Do you see any complementarities among stakeholders? Do you see any conflicts?
- Draw a line between value that are connected according to you, showing if they are conflicts or complementarities.
- Discuss with your group the conflict or complementarity that inspires you to think about the societal challenge differently. Does it help you to identify something that you had not seen before? Does it help you to think critically about the societal challenge?
- Reframe the societal challenge based on these new insights. How would you refine the societal challenge?
Output
- Systemic understanding of the societal challenge.
- Upgraded frame based on new understanding.
