CARE-FLOW: Enabling data-driven collaboration in interregional healthcare systems

PhD candidate: Chris PetriĀ

The aim of this study is to support healthcare organizations both individually and as a network in controlling patient flows (e.g., admissions, discharges, transfers) and the required capacity (e.g., staff, beds) in the right amount and at the right time. To this end, we develop several mathematical tools/algorithms that use a predictive patient flow from hospitals to VVT to properly act on the necessary resource allocation. This will be done from a midterm and shortterm perspective, where the former looks to tactical planning, e.g., scheduling staff or planning workforce, while the latter looks at a more dynamic/online resource allocation methodology.

To place everything in an interregional perspective, we will develop a mathematical framework that allows for a more efficient/smooth patient allocation from hospitals to hospitals, hospitals to VVT and VVT to VVT in order to improve on relevant KPI's (e.g., bed-blocking, patient satisfaction, overflow, system costs).
