Tobii eye-tracking

WE ARE MOVING!

Between May 29 and June 9 we are closed. Starting June 10 we wll be in Langezijds.

The BMS Lab offers a variety of Tobii eye-tracking technologies such as the Tobii Pro X3 (for screens), Tobii Pro 2 and 3 Glasses. The Tobii Pro are eye-trackers that are integrated in a set of (normal) eyeglasses. They allow the researcher to track the gaze of the participants regardless of the stimulus material or subject that is being researched. This allows researchers to do behavioral research in a wide variety of settings based on the visual attention of individuals.

Tobii Pro 2 Glasses

The Tobii Pro Glasses 2 has two cameras per eye to identify the reflection of the light source on the cornea (glint) and in the pupil. What is measured eventually are fixations and saccades in milliseconds. Combined with the measurement of the fixations and saccades, the glasses also record a video feed of what the participant is looking at, with a camera in the front of the glasses. It is also possible to use Think Aloud Protocol with the glasses thanks to the integrated microphone in the glasses.

Tobii Pro 3 Glasses

The Tobii Pro 3 Glasses have four cameras as well as 16 illuminators integrated in the lenses. In addition, the scene camera has a 160° field of view. The glasses have a microphone that is built-in for capturing environmental sounds. The set comes with corrective lenses, sun and dust protection. The Tobii Pro 3 can also be used under protective gear.

TOBII PRO X3 (for screens)

The Tobii Pro-X3 is an eye-tracker meant for tracking participants’ gaze across screens. This allows for the creation of heat maps as well as individual recordings. You will find the user manual below.

Best practices

When handling the equipment, keep the following points in mind before using the Tobii equipment for your research:

  • Where can you use it?

The Tobii Pro Glasses can be reserved to be used within or outside of our facilities. Researchers are able to reserve the the Recognice or the Flexperiment rooms to conduct their experiments. For experiments where you need to take the research to your target group you are also able to reserve our Experivan.

Hygiene Protocol

Always follow the BMS Lab hygiene protocol when using the equipment.

As it is very important to keep the wearable Tobii Eye Trackers clean during the data collection process, please read the instructions on this page to learn how to properly and safely clean the glasses without damaging the equipment.

For screen-based eye trackers such as the Tobii Pro X3, follow the instructions on this page on how to safely clean it.
