Inspire-U summer camp

InspireU Summer Camp is based on a unique concept that revolves around a simple idea: to combine challenging academic courses with entertaining activities in a festival ambiance to ultimately create an inspiring experience. We want you to learn something new, and in the meantime have a very good time doing it. Additionally, we want to create experiences that will last you a lifetime and act as stepping stones into your future careers, both on a professional and a personal level.

Want to see what that looks like? Check the video below!

Inspire-u Summer Camp

InspireU summer camp takes place on the campus of the University of Twente. The summer camp is aimed at both national (Dutch) as well as international high school students who haven't yet started their university careers, but are finishing up their high school education.

If you are at least 15 years of age and in your later to final stage of high school, summer camp InspireU is for you. Keep in mind that InspireU is an English event. Although there is no official language check, an intermediate level of understanding and speaking the English language is highly recommended.

Date & Courses

InspireU summer camp starts on July 19, 2020, and ends on July 24, 2020.

We have set up three innovative courses for this summer camp, which are aimed at technology and development. As a participant, you pick one of these courses to focus on during the summer camp. You will then be following that course during the entire summer camp, along with your fellow coursemates. The courses taught during InspireU Summer Camp 2020 are the following three:

Battle of the Robots

Robots play an increasingly important role in our lives. Think about robots in a toyshop, welding robots in a car factory and care robots in a hospital. The specific tasks of a robot are dependent of programming. Where some robots are repeating constantly the same tasks, other robots do something dependent on their environment

This course is about robotics and this is a key research theme at the University of Twente. In this research theme they are especially working on the application of robots. Examples of robot application areas are inspection robots (UAVs, UGVs, UUVS), medical robots (assistance to surgeons, diagnostics) and service robots (street cleaning, service to people). The bachelor studies that are partly or exclusively concerned with robotics are Advanced TechnologyCreative TechnologyElectrical EngineeringMechanical Engineering and Technical Computer Science.

All three courses are unique, and aim to challenge your current knowledge, teach you something new about their respective fields and offer you a different perspective. Additionally, you will be taught about specific skills related to your course and how to apply them, and learn about academic research and education, giving you a headstart on an academic education. Lastly, every course has a practical element built in, which partly revolves around an organizational visit, wherein you visit an organiation with close relational ties to the professional field connected to your course. The University of Twente offers a wide variety of such organizations, like its various labs and start-ups, and inspirational companies in the surrounding area are always willing to share their expertise as well.

On the final day of InspireU, the festive closing ceremony takes place, during which the students are asked to present the outcomes of their respective courses and learnings during the summer camp. A final goodbye to close off a great week, to which parents are invited as well.

Activities & Festival

Next to the three courses, your time at the InspireU summer camp will be filled with an awesome array of activities, varying from sport clinics, city games, a poolparty and inspirational keynotes by even more inspirational people. InspireU brings a summer camp paired with a festival vibe. In reality, this means that the courses go hand in hand with an atmosphere wherein music, sports and entertainment are well represented.
