Endorsement ISCN charter by the UT

Recently, the UT has endorsed the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Charter. The guiding principles of the ISCN is that higher education institutions have a unique role to play in developing the technologies, strategies, citizens and leaders required for a more sustainable future.

This matches the new UT strategy Shaping2030 that places sustainability at its core and states “it is our mission to respond to societal needs by developing sustainable, proactive measures to support our planet and the people to which it is home”.

By endorsing the ISCN Charter, the UT commits to follow and support the following five calls to action related to institutional leadership and network collaboration:

  1. Embed sustainability in all aspects of the university (governance, operations, learning, research, community).
  2. Create an environment that cultivates resilient, empowered, caring and engaged students, staff, and faculty who will contribute to the health of people and places.
  3. Engage with external partners, industry, government and civil society to disseminate knowledge, research and best practices to benefit the communities in which we serve.
  4. Deepen and broaden the collaboration that happens between members of the network to accelerate collective action.
  5. Ensure that the network is significantly inspiring international dialogue and debate to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

With the start of the Green Hub (a student-led initiative and the central place for all knowledge and initiatives related to sustainability within the UT) and the SEE programme (a university-wide programme for managing its sustainability, energy & environmental performance), we are more than ready to share our experiences, learn from others and together contribute to a more sustainable world.
