Moving with sensors

In this study, we aim to analyse various movements using wearable sensors. With these results, we hope to prevent injuries in the future or improve sports and rehabilitation performance. For this purpose, we are looking for healthy individuals willing to perform different movements both in the laboratory and outdoors while wearing sensors.

What will we work on?

In this study, we aim to investigate the effects of movement on the body. We are examining the effects of walking, running, jumping, lunges, and playing soccer. This is done using wearable sensors. Once the movements can be properly analyzed, we can use the results to develop techniques to prevent injuries or improve rehabilitation performance. This is possible if we can measure a person's movements multiple times. It is important that movement exercises are performed both in the laboratory and outdoors.

What do we ask of you?

You will come to the University of Twente for the study. Part of the research will take place in a laboratory, and the other part on an athletics track. For the indoor portion of the study, you will be asked to wear shorts (and a sports bra) while walking. The body will be measured using reflective sensors placed on the body. For the outdoor portion, normal sportswear can be worn.

We will ask you to walk at various speeds (3 minutes per speed). Then, you will run at different speeds (2 minutes per speed). After that, you will play soccer with a ball attached to an elastic cord. Finally, you will perform 2 exercises using a training ladder. The entire study will take approximately 3 hours.

Who can join and when?

You can join if:

  • You feel comfortable running on a treadmill.
  • You are 21 years or older.
  • You have not had any injuries in the past 6 months.
  • You are not pregnant.

Meet the researchers

Researcher 'Moving with sensors'
A. Haitjema MSc (Anne)
PhD Candidate

Hi! I'm Anne, a PhD student at the University of Twente. In my research, I aim to gather as much information as possible about an individual's movement patterns using as few wearable sensors as possible. My research project is a collaboration with Movella Holdings Inc. and is funded by the Top Consortia for Knowledge and Innovation (TKI) in High Tech Systems & Materials (HTSM).

registration for this project is no longer possible
