The Master Honours Great Negotiators programme takes place from Q2 till Q4 of each academic year and consists of a 5 EC workload per module, containing 15 EC in total. It offers a unique combination of cognitive training, alternating rigorous practical simulations and live negotiation sessions and deep professional reflection.
All group sessions take place on the UT campus whenever possible. The entire programme will require you to invest half a day per week on average outside of lecture and training hours. The lectures and training occur each Tuesday with the exception of exam weeks (i.e. weeks 9-10 of each module). You will spend this time attending lectures or practical sessions and working on negation case-study preparations and reflective assignments.
STRUCTURE
- Q2: NEGOTIATION INTRODUCTION. In the first module, a mix of cognitive and practical components will introduce you to the versatile world of negotiation. You will start working on a personal negotiation development plan called “PNP”, in which you track your progress and reflect upon the continuing practical sessions. You will gain practical knowledge and get advice from guest speakers from the top of their respective fields.
- Q3: ADVANCED NEGOTIATIONS. In the second module, the strategic perspective will shift to a psychologically and more behaviourally orientated one. You will explore the emotions and biases of yourself and your counterpart. You continue developing yourself through your PNP and gain deeper insights from guest speakers on more intricate hurdles in deal-making and conflict resolution.
- Q4: NEGOTIATION EXCELLENCE. In the third module of the programme, your developed complex negotiation skills will be deeply embedded into practice. You will find contextual understanding through applying your advanced skills to real-world challenges — you will make use of the input gained throughout the programme of various practitioners of the field of business, governance, diplomacy, policing and judiciary institutions.
- Your final graduation project shall be devoted to either your graduation work or any other challenging project (to be understood in a broad sense), to which you are providing a substantial contribution. Examples of such projects include preparing and executing a real-life negotiation; case writing, an internship/MSc-thesis the project, etc. The programme concludes with a student-organised graduation conference, complete with the presentations of the final projects and student-run negotiation exhibitions.
ASSESSMENT
The programme will be concluded by successfully passing the following assignments:
- A final presentation on your society-based graduation project.
- You will use the personal PNP learning plan to write a final reflection report on your own learning goals and applied theory.
- You demonstrate your skills in the “Great Negotiators Conference”, a special student-run negotiation graduation event taking place in Twente.
Upon completing the Master Honours Great Negotiators programme, you will receive an Honours certificate and Honours pin, as well as all awarded study credits (15 EC total). The graduation ceremony of this course is held in early July. Here all students show their peers, friends, family and all other interested parties what they have learned in this programme.
