How we work

Because the Centre is affiliated with the University of Twente, everything we do is based on academic standards and values. Among others, this means not taking things for granted but making informed decisions, including most recent insights from academic literature. The Centre's way of working is based on four key principles:

Project driven

We prefer working in projects. These can be short consultancy-like projects, but also Bachelor, Master, EngD, and PhD projects. Projects activate people, drive commitment and stimulate collaboration. Thus, we take a challenge or question as starting point and, together with you, build a project around this.

Learning by doing

Systems Engineering knowledge and skills can best be acquired by applying them to projects and learn from the results. We can coach students, teachers and industry in this learning by doing approach.

Industry-as-a-laboratory

This is a research strategy aimed at solving (business)problems while at the same time doing research. For organisations, Systems Engineering shows its value in its application and outcomes. We, as academics, like to study its underlying principles and mechanisms. Combining academic research with real-life situations in industry therefore is a perfect match.

Knowledge valorisation and dissemination

The knowledge and lessons learned will be captured and shared by the Centre. This is done with publications in journals, magazines, but also with YouTube clips, a knowledge database, posters and by including new knowledge in education. At the same time we ensure that company-internal knowledge remains inside the company.
