CME researchers received Best Paper Award at ISARC 2022

For nearly 40 years, the International Symposium on Automation and Robotics in Construction (ISARC), has tried to acknowledge significant contributions to the body of theoretical or practical knowledge in automation and robotics in construction. Over the years, the symposium has grown into the most prominent platform for knowledge sharing and networking in the domain of construction automation. Like many other international conferences, ISARC celebrates outstanding submissions by inviting authors to give keynote presentations. Also, the best paper of the conference is recognized through a prestigious award.

This year, two of the papers submitted by the CME researchers were invited for the keynote presentation at ISARC 2022, held in Bogotá, D.C., Colombia. Also, Monica Pena, a Ph.D. researcher, has won the best paper award. Her paper, “A framework for a comprehensive mobile data acquisition setting for the assessment of Urban Heat Island phenomenon”, was co-authored by Faridaddin Vahdatikhaki, Joao Santos, and André Dorée.

The paper tried to demystify the mechanism that causes and drives urban heat island phenomena using a novel data-driven method. For 12 months, Monica has been collecting a significant amount of temperature data using a tailor-made bicycle-based data acquisition unit that she developed herself.

The best paper award is a well-deserved recognition of Monic’s tenacity, passion, commitment, and professional integrity. CME group would like to congratulate her on this significant achievement and wish her the best for the rest of her Ph.D. trajectory.
