Transit affordability is critical for reducing accessibility disparities. The paper authored by our PhD student Matheus Barboza shows the role of transit fares and socio-demographic factors in shaping accessibility inequity in São Paulo, Brazil. This unique paper develops a space-time measure that integrates public transport costs and is based on big data sources, including call detail records (CDR) and smart card data (SCD). The paper reveals stark inequities: up to 72.5 % of favela dwellers in São Paulo cannot access parks within their available time and budget.
