This project focus on analysing the safety effects of the speed limit reduction at the Rijkswaterstaat roadways. In 2020, Rijkswaterstaat decided to reduce the speed limits of the roads that are under their authority, to improve safety. After 5 years, there is a need to investigate the variation in the fatal and injury crashes due to the speed limit reduction. The complexity is that various external factors such as Covid 19 pandemic and infrastructural changes can also influence safety, making it difficult to identify the actual effect of speed limit reduction. This research project will explore this topic by analysing the crash data and by developing analytical models (e.g., regression, machine learning) for estimation of effects.
