Maura Eveld has been awarded the Best Paper Award at the IEEE RAS EMBS 10th International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2024), held from 1-4 September 2024
in Heidelberg.
Her paper was chosen from over 300 submissions to this year’s conference. In this paper, she introduced a novel control algorithm for ankle exoskeletons, known as disturbance cancellation, designed to assist wearers counteract perturbations. This assistance led to a 32% increase in performance and a 16% reduction in human effort compared to not receiving assistance. This innovative approach shows great promise to improve stability and balance control in individuals with impaired balance due to neurological injuries.
