Chris Petri wins the Poster Award at TechMed Research Day 2026Chris Petri has been awarded the Best Poster Presentation at the TechMed Research Day 2026 for his work on improving patient admission decisions in aftercare. His project, “Deciding on Patient Admission in Aftercare,” focuses on developing a decision-support algorithm for aftercare institutions, such as nursing homes, to safely determine if a patient can be admitted. By incorporating uncertainties in patient inflow, bed occupancy, and nurse availability, Chris’s model helps reduce workload peaks for healthcare staff, an urgent challenge in Dutch elderly care. The project is supervised by Richard Boucherie, Daniela Guericke, and Anne Zander.Read more
25th anniversary at the UT of professor Richard J. BoucherieOn November 13, Professor Richard J. Boucherie celebrated his 25th anniversary at the University of Twente. The festive afternoon event brought together many colleagues for congratulations, drinks, and snacks. A highlight of the celebration was a speech by Judith Timmer, who took the audience on an “ABC of Richard.” For each letter of the alphabet, she shared an anecdote, characteristic, or contribution linked to Richard’s academic career and personal qualities. For example, in Richard's case, the letter Q was an easy task, as Queueing Theory is one of his main research interests. During the ceremony, Richard received flowers and several presents. He also shared a few words himself, looking back on the past 25 years and expressing gratitude for past and ongoing collaborations, highlighting the opportunities the region offers for impactful work.Read more
