PhD defense of Changqing Lu

After five years, the NWO funded project "Data-driven risk management for fire services", a collaboration between Brandweer Twente, the University of Twente, CWI and Thales BV, culminated in Changqing Lu's successful defence of his PhD dissertation “Statistical and machine learning contributions to spatial and spatio-temporal point process modelling, with an application to Dutch fire risk prediction" on February 27, 2025. 

The committee composed of Rémi Bardenet (CNRS, University of Lille), Geurt Jongbloed (Delft University of Technology), Rasmus Waagepetersen (Aalborg University), Ron de Wit (Brandweer Twente), Johannes Schmidt--Hieber (University of Twente), Alfred Stein (University of Twente), Marie-Colette van Lieshout (CWI, University of Twente), Richard Boucherie (University of Twente), Maurits de Graaf (Thales BV) and chair Maria Vlasiou were impressed by the quality and relevance of Changqing's work. 

Friends and colleagues celebrated Changqing's achievement and toasted his future career. Dr Lu will continue his research on an Alain Bensoussan fellowship at CWI Amsterdam.
