SoilPROS

Soil biodiversity analysis for sustainable production systems

Project summary:

SoilProS does data science and machine learning on ecological data. This data describes soil biodiversity, physico-chemical properties, how a field is managed, and the functions of the soil (from agricultural yield to ecosystem services). We build predictive ecological models, such as functional (causal) ecological networks between species in the soil, physico-chemical properties, and soil function. Ultimately, we aim to learn which soil network structure associates with healthy (multifunctional) soils, and optimise interventions to restore and the biodiversity of the soil. The project consortium includes 6 academic partners led by Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), NGOs, government bodies, and many companies.
