NEDAP is looking for an intern to join our data science team. You will work closely with your colleagues on solving challenging problems in the healthcare domain. The data science team focuses on understanding and modeling structured and unstructured data in electronic patient records to support a wide range of care processes. We develop solutions end-to-end: starting with an idea, to a research prototype into deploying a production system. As such, we are an interdisciplinary and international team that collaborates directly with other product teams.
Your internship will be centered around a project developed together with you. Possible project topics include:
- Information extraction and semantic annotation: analyze unstructured patient records to identify information such as medication, diseases and ICD-10 codes.
- Generalizability and domain robustness: applying techniques such as transfer learning to develop models that can be used in a variety care processes and medical specialisms.
- Privacy: research techniques (e.g., de-identification or differential privacy) and their application to text to protect patient privacy in data-driven applications.
- Modeling: find effective and efficient representations of patient records that can be embedded in a downstream task such as document classification.
As part of the internship, you will share and present your work within the company, but also potentially at a customer event or a scientific venue.

Required experience and skills
- Pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science or related fields
- Background in natural language processing, machine learning and related fields
- Hands-on experience with NLP tasks such as information extraction and language
Modeling
- Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art frameworks for machine learning, deep learning and NLP
- Good programming skills in, for example, Python
