Description:

When considering cycling activities, calculating the intensity level during the rides is essential to comprehend the overall users' performance. Distinct factors influence this analysis, such as speed, distance, temperature, elevation, heart rate, wind direction, etc. If we consider a ride level data granularity, each athlete's ride will consist of the average values from the abovementioned factors. From this perspective, we can analyze this scenario using multidimensional visualizations techniques. In particular, dimensionality reduction techniques may provide meaningful information based on the visual layouts patterns.

Assignment:

Several visualization techniques were proposed in the literature to deal with sport cycling data[1]. However, applying dimensionality reduction techniques for cycling data is not well explored by the scientific literature. The assignment involves investigating the usage of distinct dimensionality reduction techniques to extract useful information and gain insights regarding cycling rides data scenarios. In special, in which way visual data exploration aid to find and identifying similar rides through visual patterns like clusters, trends, or outliers.
