Over a year ago, we were approached by the municipality of Enschede with their wish for the realisation of housing on the UT campus. It concerns realisation of housing on a plot on Witbreuksweg, located right next to the existing student houses. Before the summer, it was said that the project had been put on-hold for the time being, partly in anticipation of developments in The Hague.
The municipality informed neighbouring residents by letter last week of its intention to investigate the possible realisation of these houses. In that letter, they wrote that ‘it concerns 100 flex homes that can be built relatively quickly. These new homes could provide a place to live for various house seekers in our municipality, including starters, students, young people and other one- and two-person households. Should the study lead to a positive result, the homes could also provide a place for displaced people from Ukraine, who have found a (temporary) new home in Enschede.’
UT is surprised by the communication that has taken place from the municipality about this. The Executive Board has so far only taken note of the municipality's wish, but has not yet taken a further position on it, pending more extensive information. We await further talks with the Municipality of Enschede and the housing corporation.
The proposed location is the light green shape next to the parking lot.
