The Special Olympics Village on the Campus of the University of Twente is complete. The Special Olympics National Games Twente 2022 start on Friday. This weekend, 3,000 athletes and coaches will take part in the largest multi-sport event for people with a mental disability in the Netherlands. Here is the latest practical information, including information on how to reach the Campus.
Drienerlolaan closed
The Special Olympics Village is located on both sides of the Drienerlolaan. This means that the Drienerlolaan is closed from Monday May 30 till Thursday June 16. The traffic will be diverted during this period via the Hallenweg, De Zul and Boerderijweg.
Friday 10 June
Because of the expected crowds, we advise you to come to the Campus by bike or public transport as much as possible on Friday 10 June. If you do come by car, try to leave the Campus grounds before 15.00 hrs. From 15.00 hours also the Calslaan and Campuslaan are closed. You can then leave the UT via the Hallenweg.
Arrival participants
The participants who stay on the terrain will arrive on Friday between 11.00 and 14.30 hrs. The participants arrive via the route Bosweg-Langenkampweg-Calslaan. After registration and reception they will go via Campuslaan, Drienerlolaan (where they will unload their belongings), Hallenweg, De Zul and Boerderijweg to the car parks P1 (Boerderijweg) and P2 (De Horst). Closed roads will be announced by means of signs and cones on the approach roads. At intersections, lane(s) will be closed to traffic and (where necessary) traffic controllers will be deployed.
Public transport
Due to the closures, no public transport will be using the Campus on Friday 10 June, Saturday 11 June and Sunday 12 June. The public transport will follow the normal schedule. Please check the usual channels for more information:
